David offers his services as editor and/or publisher for developing biographies, family histories, fiction and non-fiction books (especially music books). With a university background in Science; a passion for the nuances of the English language; a long standing interest in Australian history and folklore and music; and a creative openness he may well be the help you need with your languishing project.
A range of services adapted to a client's requirements. From editorial advice to full editing; from transcribing to one-off printing to serious publishing; ISBN numbers; book design and layout; and most recently individual volume bookbinding in a suitable style.
Experience
David's experience covers quite a range of publications including:
- His most recent book Songs of Australia which is a collation of 320 old bush songs and recent compositions.
- Memoirs of British-born Australian artist, painter and set designer Dennis Grafton (1922-2008) In My Shoes and Solo On A Shoestring. David was asked by his wife to edit Dennis' draft which he recorded prior to his death.
- Australian Folklore thesis of Australian folklorist/ performer Brad Tate entitled Australian Folk Verse and Melody published in 2018 and launched at the National Folklore Conference. David provided music manuscipts and editorial advice prior to publication.
- Republication of Brad's annotated collection of tunes and songs Down and Outback with foreword by his widow Kerry Tate.
- Music Folio for Bush Dance And When They Dance for the Bundanoon DanceFest 2018 including 40 sets of suitable dance tunes.
- Folio of music and songs from the repertoire of Harry Cotter of Binalong prepared for a weekend of music in 2017 celebrating Harry's contributions to the Australian folk repertoire, with tunes transcribed by David and by Tony Stuart.
- Reprint of William Litten's Fiddle Tunes 1800-1802 for a workshop at the National Folk Festival 2008.
- Bush Dance - a folio of tunes arranged for bush dances which became a resource for many bands around the country referred to as 'the blue book'. David selected and arranged and then set the music by hand for layout and publication by the Bush Music Club 1985.
- Various other tune publications for specific events and situations drawing on his extensive repertoire of Australian folk music tunes and songs.
